Firefighters are well-known for their heroic efforts when saving lives and putting out blazing fires. However, those aren’t the only reasons that these men and women are heroic. It is also because of the money they raise for charities and foundations who find cures for illnesses.
Probably the most popular venue which the firefighters use to raise their funds is the yearly fireman calendar. All over the world, fire stations are gathering up their men (and at times women) and stripping them down for some “hot” pictures. These photos are then put in a calendar and sold in different retail stores, using the majority of the profits for their cause of choice.
North American firefighters are great supporters for those who have been diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy. Both career and volunteer firefighters hold regular fundraisers for the cause, including community dances, pub crawls, sport tournaments, car washes, drives, etc. Along with these fundraisers, they also donate their time to help build ramps for those with MD.
Superman, Spiderman, Batman – they are whom many consider heroes. But it’s firefighters who come to our rescue and save the lives of our loved ones by battling fires and also by raising funds for great causes. All in all, they are the real-life heroes.
