Veterans Day (formerly known as Armistice Day) is an American holiday which falls on November 11th of each year. It is a day to remember all soldiers who fought in war and to celebrate the ending of World War One. To honor all men who gave their lives in any war, an Army honor guard keeps a vigil all night and day on this holiday. At 11 a.m. on November 11, a guard representing all military services executes "Present Arms" at the Tomb of the Unknowns. The nation's tribute to its dead is symbolized by the laying of a presidential wreath and the playing of “Taps."
Parades and fundraisers are often held for Veterans Day. Profits are raised to help with the cost of the parades, or to collect money in soldiers’ names for the local Army. Many fundraisers are also to raise profits for various veteran organizations and memorial parks and areas. After all the fundraising, the parades are held to celebrate those that fought for their country. It is a yearly tradition in most states which they continue to practice and it helps to educate people about their country’s history, and raise awareness about the effects of war.
