There are various examples of fund raising letters including Annual Appeals. The primary goal of this letter is to appeal for donations for various non-profit organizational goals. The letter should include information about the organization, the amount requested and the payment options available (often times organizations will include a separated donation postcard for this purpose). When ever writing a fund raising letter, it is always wise to include a return addressed envelope with postage include if possible. A Capital Campaign letter is similar to an Annual Appeal fund raising letter except it is “asking” for a specific cause – a new children’s wing in a community hospital. Again, the mission of the organization should be stated in the letter, as well as the Capital Campaign goal and a requested amount from the donor.
A Special Event letter should give details about the event including time, date, location and theme. The letter should also let attendees and donors know what the funds raised will be used for and give information on any extra donation opportunities (i.e. auction) that will be offered at the event (people need to know whether to bring extra cash).
Always follow up any “ask” for any reason with a Thank You letter. The letter shows that your organization appreciates the donation and gives the donor reason to donate again!
